Press freedom
I found an interesting ranking of press freedom in various countries. Denmark has dropped a lot because of the Mohammed cartoons, but I find it more worrying that the UK is placed 27th (between Namibia and Costa Rica), and that the US is placed 53rd (together with Tonga and Botswana). I find it deeply concerning that liberties are being eroded in the name of anti-terrorism.
To some extent I can understand that the US is overreacting, at least they’re not used to it. But in Europe, we had to deal with real wars, and with the IRA, ETA, RAF and many other groups, and we managed to do that without giving up the defining parts of our societies.
