During Euralex, I’ve noticed how the microphones don’t cope well with aspirated consonants. They’re fine when people speak Italian or French into them, but give them English or Danish, and all the initial /p/s, /t/s and /k/s have unpleasant acustic effects when the puff of air reaches the microphone.

That’s old news 😉 It’s therefore you (always) see these big yellow/black or whatever windcaps on microphones around. They protect the sounds and reduces the puffs.
Sure, but my point was that certain languages seem be OK with cheaper microphones.
