It’s my 35th birthday today! I got some really cool presents, including a new blender, a pasta machine with motor and two ties, but the best bit was that Marcel and Charlotte baked me a beautiful birthday cake!

Although Pudge still loves his mum’s milk (dooda as she calls it), he doesn’t really like Aptamil, but recently we found out that he likes breakfast milk (extra-fat milk with 5% fat compared to the 3.5% in full-fat milk). Actually, he seems to like it more and more – now he doesn’t even wait for me to find him a glass!

Marcel’s old computer Originally uploaded by viralbus. Marcel’s old computer from the house had some problems, so Phyllis brought it to the flat and I installed Ubuntu Linux on it.I can’t get its wireless card to work, however, so I had to place it next to the router. 🙁I’m blogging this from it.

Hans første flødebolle

The teacake monster Originally uploaded by viralbus. Jeg købte forleden en pakke flødeboller (Tunnock’s teacakes på engelsk), og hverken Charlotte eller Léon kendte dem. (Sjovt nok hævder Phyllis, det er en skotsk ting, men de smager nu ligesom danske flødeboller.)Først vidste Léon ikke, hvad han skulle stille op med den – den var for stor til at få ind i munden – men snart fik han dog bidt hul i den, og som det ses på billedet, blev han hurtigt overbevist om flødebollens fortræffelighed!

Dodgy Bank

Yesterday, I introduced Marcel and Charlotte to the boardgame Broker (das Börsenspiel in German). Normally, Charlotte tends to learn fast, but she didn’t really grasp the concept of buying cheap and selling dear. Marcel, on the other hand, very definitely got the idea, and he won the game with nearly £100k. Charlotte made one sweet contribution, though: One of the companies traded in the game is Deutsche Bank, but she turned that into Dodgy Bank!

Wee harmonica player

Pudge has finally got the hang of the harmonica. He’s played the glockenspiel for ages, of course, but until a couple of days ago, he didn’t understand how to blow and suck in the right way. But he’s learnt it now, and as can be seen on this video, he’s now very happy to walk around the flat playing.

Jeg begyndte i dag at lave julepynt med Marcel og Charlotte. I Storbritannien har de af uransagelige grunde næsten ingen traditioner for at lave juleting – de laver ingen julepynt, de bager ingen julesmåkager, de laver ingen julesylte – de køber bare alting færdigt (selv julemiddagen). Så min mor fløj over med glaspapir og papirstrimler til mig, og vi lavede i dag nogle hjerter, og vi forsøgte også at flette stjerner – det gik nu ikke så godt, så jeg skal vist lige øve mig i frokostpausen […]

Glockenspiel

Xylophone Originally uploaded by viralbus. Because Pudge has got rhythm, I bought a xylophone (or more precisely, as Wikipedia informs me, a glockenspiel). He loves it a lot, and so does Charlotte, as can be seen from this photo (whereas Marcel seems to largely ignore it). He has definitely got the hang of it – he instinctively knows how to hold the sticks, and he’s quickly getting a more controlled touch. I wonder how long it’ll take before he starts playing tunes… 😉

A dark Hefeweizen for me, please!

Léon has now progressed from his coffee-drinking stage. This photo was taken during a visit to the West Brewing Company, a very nice micro-brewery and German restaurant at Glasgow Green. It’s a really nice place – the food is great (if you love German food), they have high chairs that match the rest of the furniture, and they have free Ikea toys for toddlers.

Idith og Ottos første oldebarn

Hvis Idith og Otto stadig havde været i live, ville de være blevet oldeforældre i går, da min fætter Henrik og Ulla (hans kone) fik en datter (iflg. Nikolaj ved 1-tiden om morgenen). Tillykke! Det er en dejligt nem dato at huske for Phyllis og mig, da den 6. november også er vores jubilæumsdag. 🙂 Givet datoen, og fordi Phyllis selv blev født tidligt om morgenen, foreslog hun mig, at jeg skulle opfordre Henrik til, at de kalder hende Phyllis.
