Gizzi’s

2007/03/12 20:41

It seems the refurbishing of the Bistro du Sud is finally coming to a completion. However, it seems to have changed its name in the process, to Gizzi’s.

Update: I’ve found out what the connexion between Bistro du Sud and Gizzi is!

Happy birthday to me!

2007/02/08 23:23

It’s my 35th birthday today! I got some really cool presents, including a new blender, a pasta machine with motor and two ties, but the best bit was that Marcel and Charlotte baked me a beautiful birthday cake!

Hans første flødebolle

2006/11/18 10:44

The teacake monster Originally uploaded by viralbus.

A dark Hefeweizen for me, please!

2006/11/09 22:47

Léon has now progressed from his coffee-drinking stage. This photo was taken during a visit to the West Brewing Company, a very nice micro-brewery and German restaurant at Glasgow Green. It’s a really nice place – the food is great (if you love German food), they have high chairs that match the rest of the furniture, and they have free Ikea toys for toddlers.

Pork & apple sausage rolls

2006/09/04 19:05

I’ve never been a great fan of sausage rolls – they’ve always seemed too heavy and greasy, something that could be used to quell the hunger till I got home from the supermarket, but not anything to eat for pleasure. So I really have to applaud Tesco’s new pork & apple sausage rolls. It seems the only difference is the addition of dried apple pieces to the sausage meat, but what a difference! Suddenly it’s slightly sweet, slightly spicy, elegant, heavenly…

Slag

2006/08/12 12:45

Bistro du Sud

2007/02/19 21:17

When I walked past the Bistro du Sud in Cambridge Street an hour ago, all the furniture had been stripped out, and the waitress was standing there with a boy and a man, looking happy. I hope they’re just renovating it – I would hate to see it close, given that it’s one of my favourite restaurants in Glasgow, and just round the corner from our flat.

Tequila Sunrise

2007/02/10 01:53

We’ve just come home from the HarperCollins New Year Party at the Marriott Hotel. As usual, we got a free welcome drink, really nice food (steak in a haggis crust among other things) and three drink vouchers. Armed with my vouchers, I went to the the bar which seemed larger than my entire flat. “Can I have a Tequila Sunrise?” I asked. “Sorry Sir, but we don’t have that brand of tequila. Do you want a Jose Cuervo instead?” the barmaid asked. (According to her name tag, […]

More about Transcaucasian products

2006/11/15 07:59

Look at these pomegranates from Azerbaijan! They are huge, beautiful and delicious! Why can’t we buy fruit like that here? Phyllis took this photo in Riga, and Riga has been part of the EU, and thus of the internal market, for a two and a half years, so if they can sell them there, surely they can be sold here as well!?! The same applies to my previous blog posting about Georgian wine – why can’t we buy the good stuff that Latvian consumers are getting?

Georgian wine in Latvia

2006/11/14 22:54

In Britain and Denmark, it’s almost impossible to get hold of Georgian wine. Compare this with the situation in any Latvian supermarket – see for instance the photo on the left (Gruzija is Latvian for ‘Georgia’). What surprised me even more was that they also sold cheap Bulgarian copies of Georgian wines – see the photo on the right (you might need to click on it to see a larger version). Needless to say, I brought several bottles back to Glasgow. Strangely enough, however, Phyllis doesn’t quite […]

ქართული ღვინო

2006/09/16 17:32

Ever since I studied Georgian in Georgia (1996-97), I’ve been missing the wonderful Georgian wine. It’s ubiquitous in Georgia, and it’s extremely widespread in Russia too, but in western Europe, one hardly ever sees it. There are a few online shops that sell it, such as Fareham Wine Cellar in the UK and Gourmatis in Germany, but it’s hardly a huge selection that is available there, and it is annoying not being able to buy wine locally. I wish I could do something do bring Georgian wines […]

Real men love coffee Originally uploaded by phyl1. This photo that I found on Phyllis’s Flickr pages is just perfect. I know there’s probably very little coffee in the mug, if any, but wee Léon just looks so much like an addicted coffee drinker. I love the was he’s grasping the mug and watching the camera while drinking – it just signals that the most important thing in the world is getting his caffeine, and nobody is going to stop him. Possibly I find the photo so […]

Halvårsfødselsdag på tirsdag

2006/08/05 13:33
